Day 1 Fly from USA to Auckland, New Zealand
Your flight will leave Los Angeles or San Francisco late in the evening, allowing you easy connections from most US cities. During the 12 hour non stop flight you cross the International Dateline and arrive into Auckland in the morning of "day 3" (so if you leave West Coast on Friday night, you land in Auckland on Sunday morning).

Day 2 Cross the International Dateline

Day 3 Arrival into Auckland
Located between two stunning harbors, Auckland, ‘City of Sails’, enjoys a mild year-round climate. It is the country’s most visited region and largest urban area, offering exciting activities and great shopping. On arrival this morning, transfer to your accommodation for 1 night.

.Day 4 Auckland – Rotorua
Journey from Auckland to the thermal center of Rotorua, an area to introduce you to Maori culture and heritage. Accommodation for 2 nights. The afternoon is at leisure, then this evening enjoy a Maori Hangi & Concert and learn more about the Maori culture at a traditional Marae. (D)

Day 5 Rotorua
A morning tour to see some of the best of Rotorua's natural and man-made attractions. Visit Rainbow Springs and Rainbow Farm for a sheep show and working sheep dog demonstrations. Continue to Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve to see bubbling mud pools, steaming geysers and intricate Maori wood carvings.

Day 6 Rotorua to Napier
Today you journey to the East cost and the town of Napier famous for some great wines now. Spend the afternoon exploring this great town and surrounding area. Drive time is about 4 hours.

Day 7 Napier to Wellington
Today you journey south to the bottom of the North Island and the capital city of New Zealand, Wellington. Here you will be staying for the next 2 nights. You can also choose to stay at the stunning Wharekauhau Lodge (just an hours drive from Wellington - ask your travel professional about this and the extra cost)

Day 8 Wellington
Today you have a morning sightseeing tour of this city and the afternoon is at free to explore. Perhaps spend some time at the Te Papa, the National Museum of New Zealand.

Day 9 Wellington to Nelson
Journey across the Tasman Sea (if you have a rental car you will drive to the wharf and check in your rental car, take the ferry across and then receive another car in Picton on the South Island and continue on your journey).

Day 10 Nelson
A day at leisure in Nelson perhaps to try sea kayaking, or take a walk in the Abel Tasman National Park. Nelson itself is also known for it’s arts and crafts, cafes and restaurants, and being one of the sunniest places in New Zealand, you can easily lose yourself for a day in town.

Day 11 Nelson – Franz Josef
A full day of traveling today, from Nelson via the west coast to Greymouth, continuing south to Franz Josef and the Glacier region.

Day 12 Franz Josef
This morning, join a half day excursion that includes a one mile interpretive walk to the terminal face and a minimum of a full hour exploring the lower reaches of the Franz Josef Glacier. During the walk, your guide will provide the story of the history of the glacier and geology in action, which is an experience in itself. Afternoon is at leisure.

Day 13 Franz Josef – Queenstown
Today continue driving south to Queenstown, the activity center of New Zealand! Accommodation for 3 nights.

Day 14 Queenstown
Depart Queenstown to travel by coach to the mouth of the Dart River where we board the 18 foot specially prepared jet boat. We thread our way through a maze of channels, between river flats in only inches of water. After an hour you pull into the bank and explore the area by foot. Here you see an abundance of bird life, lush green trees and waterfalls roaring from ahead. On the return journey, we stop at Glenorchy for a quick snack before heading back to Queenstown.

Day 15 Queenstown
Today is free for you explore and try the many activities that Queenstown has. Perhaps take a scenic heli flight to Milford Sound. Refer our customized section for suggestions here.

Day 16 Queenstown – Dunedin
Travel today by coach to Pukerangi. On arrival at the station you board the Taieri Gorge Railway, considered by some as one of the worlds great train journeys. See spectacular changes in scenery, from the rugged mountain gorges of the Taieri River to fertile plains. The trip crosses giant stone and wrought iron viaducts and enters numerous tunnels carved from rock – arriving into Dunedin early evening. Accommodation for 2 nights (for those with rental car, you will drop your car off at Queenstown and collect a new one in Dunedin)

Day 17 Dunedin
Late morning, depart on a scenic drive to Taiaroa for the Albatross land tour (restricted viewing from September to November). A lunch stop is made (own expense), before transferring to Wellers Rock for a guided cruise to Taiaroa. View a wealth of wildlife up close, including the chance to see albatross, seals and cormorants, then transfer to the penguin reserve for a Yellow eyed penguin land tour.

Day 18 Dunedin – Christchurch
Continue your journey to Christchurch, home to Victoria Park and the famous Avon River. Accommodation for 2 nights.

Day 19 Christchurch
Today is free to explore the city of Christchurch.

Day 20 Christchurch to USA
Transfer to Christchurch airport and fly to Auckland to make your International flight to the west coast. You re-cross the International Dateline and arrive back into the west coast the same morning. From there you can make easy connections to most US cities.
