Day 1: Arrive HanoiYou will be met with flowers when you arrive in Hanoi, capital city of Vietnam. Hanoi’s history is tied to French colonialism; its architecture, cuisine and local culture still bear evidence of the French influence. After checking in at your hotel, take a rickshaw ride through the French colonial quarter, the administrative quarter and the old quarter. Welcome dinner at the Seasons of Hanoi restaurant in a deluxe French colonial villa.Overnight in Hanoi. (D)

Day 2: HanoiMorning tour of Hoan Kiem Lake, the Temple of Literature, the One Pillar Pagoda and Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum. Vegetarian lunch is served at the ancient Kim Lien pagoda where the group can interact with the monks about their life and Vietnamese Buddhism. Afternoon, visit some important museums, including the Hanoi Historical Museum with a one hour cultural talk delivered by renowned historian Dr. Huu Ngoc, and the Museum of Ethnology. Evening, enjoy a private water puppet show. Dinner is at the French colonial Indochine Restaurant with a traditional music performance.Overnight in Hanoi (B, L, D)

Day 3: HanoiFull day to visit handicraft villages including Bat Trang, famous for ceramics, and Dong Ho, with its traditional woodblock prints, near But Thap Pagoda, one of the most important Buddhist pagodas, where a picnic lunch will be served. Afternoon, drive to Ha Khe and Dong Ky villages where hand-carved wooden furniture is made. Return to Hanoi. Evening, visit the studio home of two well-known Hanoi artists, Mai Hien and Anh Khanh, for a cocktail party. Free evening. Overnight in Hanoi. (B, L)

Day 4: Hanoi – Danang (Air)Morning flight to Danang. Visit the Cham Museum, which has the finest collection of Cham sculpture in the world, some dating back to the 4th century. The museum tour is specially led by Dr. Le Ba Dat, who teaches Cham civilization at Danang General University. Lunch is at the Hana Kim Dinh restaurant overlooking the river. Transfer to the resort and the remainder of the day is free to relax on the beach. Overnight in Danang. (B, L)

Day 5: Hoi AnFull day excursion to Hoi An, a riverside town 30 km south of Danang that was one of South East Asia’s major international ports during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The narrow streets are full of buildings that have remained virtually unchanged for 200 years, plus charming shops featuring local crafts. A morning walking tour led by Mr. Tran Van Nhan, a member of Hoi An Restoration Center, includes visits to the Phuc Kien pagoda, Tan Ky ancient house, the Japanese covered bridge, temples and the central market. Lunch is at the Pho Hoi Club Garden restaurant. Afternoon, take a boat trip to visit the boat building and carpentry villages of Kim Bong and Thu Ha. Drive back to Danang. Dinner free. Day 6: My Son After breakfast drive to My Son, Vietnam’s most important Cham site, a notable intellectual and religious center that may also have served as a burial place for Cham monarchs. My Son is considered to be the Champa counterpart to the grand cities of South-East Asia’s other Indian-influenced civilizations, such as Angkor in Cambodia, Ayuthaya in Thailand and Borobudur in Java. Picnic lunch served at the entrance to the main palace. On the way back, stop at the Bang An Cham tower. Evening, buffet dinner at the resort.Overnight in Danang. (B, L, D)

Day 7: Danang – HueMorning drive 2 hours to Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam. The scenic drive goes over Hai Van Pass with breath-taking views up and down the coast. Stop en route at a rural school, an opportunity to talk to the students and interact with the teachers. Check in at hotel. Lunch is served at the former home of an imperial princess, where well-known historian Mr. Phan Thuan An now lives. Interact with Mr. An about Hue history and hear his daughter playing the music of the imperial court. Afternoon, boat trip on the Perfume River to Con Hen island to visit the traditional Hue casket hat and peanut candy-making village, and then upstream to see a community of boat people and visit Thien Mu pagoda, the best preserved religious monument on the river bank. Drive to the Imperial Citadel. End the day with a stroll to Dong Ba market. Dinner free. Overnight in Hue. (B, L)

Day 8: Hue – Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon)Early morning transfer to the airport for flight to Saigon. City tour includes the central post office, Notre Dame Cathedral and the former presidential palace. Lunch at the Ancient Town restaurant, where Bill Clinton ate during his visit. Afternoon, visit the Jade Emperor pagoda, the War Museum and the old district of Cholon, the original Chinatown. Evening, dinner and cultural show at the Rex Garden Restaurant. Overnight in Saigon. Day 9: Cu Chi & Tay NinhFull day excursion. On the way to the Cu Chi tunnels, visit a rice paper making village. Descend into the Cu Chi Tunnels where the guerrilla fighters constructed an amazing underground base. The tour is led by Vietnamese veterans who lived in the tunnels - an opportunity to interact with them about their lives. Continue to Tay Ninh to visit the Cao Dai temple, a unique religion worshiping Jesus, Confucius and Buddha. Lunch is at a local restaurant. Return to Saigon with an en route visit to a country market. Dinner free. Overnight in Saigon. (B, L)

Day 10: My ThoMorning excursion to the Mekong Delta. Pancake flat but lusciously green and beautiful, the delta was formed by sediment deposited by the Mekong River, a process which continues today; silt deposits extend the shoreline by up to 79 meters per year. Enjoy a boat ride to Unicorn island with its variety of fruit trees, and visit craftspeople making local candy and traditional sticky rice wine. Listen to folk music before taking a small sampan through the tiny canals. Drive to Trung Luong restaurant for a lunch of Mekong specialties. Return to Saigon. The balance of the afternoon is free for last minute shopping. Dinner free.Overnight in Saigon. (B, L)

Day 11: Saigon – Phnom Penh (Air)Morning flight to Phnom Penh, capital city of Cambodia. On arrival, transfer to hotel. Visit the National Museum. Lunch is at the Thmor Da restaurant. Afternoon, visit the Royal Palace and the Toul Sieng Museum. Dinner free.Overnight in Phnom Penh. (B, L)

Day 12: Phnom Penh – Siem Reap (Air)Flight to Siem Reap, gateway to one of the seven wonders of the ancient world – Angkor Wat. The tour is specially led by Dr. Pich Keo, a Cambodian historian who is the Director of the Department of Angkor Conservation working in cooperation with UNESCO and the Ministry of Fine Arts and Culture. Built in 802 A.D., Angkor was home to more than one million people at the height of the Khmer Empire. Lunch at the hotel, then visit the Bayon and Ta Prohm temples. Day 13: Siem ReapWhole day sightseeing in Angkor to visit the Angkor Conservation area, the temple of Ta Prohm, Ta Keo, Chay Saytevada, Thommanoum, Bonteay Srei temple and many other unforgettable sites. Lunch at Chao Praya Restaurant. Dinner at hotel.Overnight in Siem Reap. (B, L, D)
